Research Grant – Fashion Studies Journal

RESEARCH GRANT:

FASHION STUDIES JOURNAL

With the gracious support of its donors, the Fashion Studies Journal (FSJ) invites Master’s students, PhD candidates, early career researchers, and independent researchers working within the fields of fashion design and fashion studies (broadly defined) to submit applications for a $125 grant that may be used at the applicant’s discretion to support research, making, or conference fees. This year the FSJ is proud to be able to award two grants to deserving scholars, practitioners, and students!

The goal of the FSJ Research Grant is to further and expand the scope of fashion studies research and to offer (an admittedly small amount of) support to needy scholars and practitioners facing skyrocketing tuition, ever-higher conference fees, and shrinking adjunct salaries.

Interested applicants should submit a brief, 1,000-word essay that describes both the scope of their research projects or papers and how the funds will be allocated. Good uses of grant funds include: image licensing, material costs, printing and archival fees, or travel to and from a research site, conference, or archive. If the funding is going to be applied to conference fees, please include a synopsis of the paper to be presented as well as proof of the paper’s acceptance to the conference. In addition to the essay, please also include a copy of your resume or CV or links to your personal website.

New, in-process, and unpublished research will be favored amongst a panel of blind peer reviewers. FSJ asks that established researchers and those with full-time university teaching and research positions not apply.

Awards will be granted to the winners retroactively after the submission of proof of travel and research expenses. All grantees will also be asked to write about or report on their research in a forthcoming issue of The Fashion Studies Journal with the guidance and support of one of our editors. Grantees may choose to write about their in-process research or to publish a completed article.

Please submit two copies of your essay as Word Documents or PDFs, omitting your name and affiliation from one version, along with your CV to info@fashionstudiesjournal.org by 30th October 2017. All applicants will be contacted by 15th December 2017 with a decision.
