Assistant Professor in Fashion Studies

The American University of Paris invites applications for an Assistant Professor specializing in Fashion Studies, beginning 1 August 2023. This position is housed within the Department of Communication, Media and Culture. Candidates should have cross-cultural expertise and academic training in Fashion Studies or FashionCommunications and Cultures. In addition to excellent scholarship, ideal candidates would have experience and contacts in the professional field of fashion. Highest consideration will be given to candidates with proven research or professional experience in Global South cultures and with complementary disciplinary expertise in any of the following fields: anthropology, cultural studies, digital media and emerging technologies, film studies, material culture, sociology, sustainability, or visual culture.


Qualifications: Ph.D. in any of the aforementioned with a strong emphasis on Fashion by time of appointment. Proven capacity for engaged teaching committed to student learning within a liberal arts context, and to experiential learning and critical practice.Strong record in curriculum and course development. Familiarity with liberal arts education, learning objectives, skill development (critical thinking, information literacy, writing in the disciplines, etc.) and assessment is highly desirable. Strong research and publication potential in Fashion Studies. Capacity to work in a multi-cultural environment a strong plus. Ability to speak French is recommended but not required.
